THE CRISIS

Uganda’s protected areas are losing ground to invasive vegetation, threatening wildlife habitats, community livelihoods, and the national conservation priorities MCCA was built to serve.

Invasive Vegetation

Unchecked invasive plants degrade grazing land, displace native species, and reduce the habitat quality Uganda’s wildlife depends on. It spreads faster than parks can respond.

LEARN FACTS

Wildlife Conflict

As habitats shrink, wildlife moves into farmland and settlements. Communities near protected areas absorb the cost, crop loss, safety risk, lost income, with few alternatives.

LEARN FACTS

Climate Vulnerability

Degraded landscapes lose their capacity to absorb and retain water, compounding drought and flood risk. Restoration is no longer just biodiversity, it is climate resilience.

RIGHT TO HABITAT

How Serious
is The Threat?

Invasive plants are choking Uganda’s protected areas. Without removal, native species vanish, wildlife retreats, and the communities that depend on this land lose their livelihood.

LET'S TAKE ACTION

Together, we can restore this land. Partner with us to clear invasives, revive habitats, and build lasting benefit for wildlife and communities across the region.

HABITAT RECOVERY TAKES MORE THAN ONE PRACTICE

Habitat recovery is not achieved with one intervention. MCCA combines site assessments, chemical removal, long-term monitoring, and community livelihoods so restoration holds.

OUR APPROACH

ALIGNED WITH
NATIONAL PRIORITIES

MCCA was founded in 2025 to address a gap we kept seeing across Uganda’s tourist sites: invasive plants degrading habitat, and no structured, evidence-based partner to remove them. Our strategy aligns directly with national conservation leadership and environmental authority standards, so every intervention advances national priorities, not our own.

HOW WE RESTORE LAND

Our evidence-based approach clears invasive growth and rebuilds habitat, working toward landscapes where wildlife can return.

FUNDING TRANSPARENCY

90% of MCCA’s expenses go to field activities. With 76% of that spent on habitat restoration and species recovery, and 24% on community and climate programmes, and the remainder on operations and monitoring.

WHERE WE'VE WORKED

PROOF OF WORK

MCCA’s field work spans restoration sites across Uganda, delivered in partnership with park authorities, lodges, and local communities.

HABITAT RECOVERY WORK

Zziwa habitat and rhino recovery

Habitat restoration through invasive species removal is central to the work of every MCCA project. We’re conscious of the fact that despite the enormous contribution of a healthy habitat to rhino population growth and community livelihoods, this land had not been given proper recognition until recently.

IMPACT AND EVIDENCE

We work where the need is greatest. Last year, we restored habitat across 4 project sites in Uganda’s conservation landscapes.

LET'S TAKE ACTION

Together, we can reverse habitat loss in Uganda. Join our work to restore degraded land, empower host communities, and protect the wildlife that depends on it.
